what the papers say

the Albany way in action

Case Studies

Allport

Allport is a large freight forwarding company based in Southall, Middlesex.

The Challenge

The site includes a 24 hour busy warehouse which has high washroom usage. They were spending a significant amount per year on paper towels.

Steve McNally, Allport’s Facilities Manager, was therefore looking for an innovative hand drying solution that was environmentally friendly and would save both time and money without unsightly paper mess.

The Solution

As Allport was an existing Albany customer, we offered Steve a free consultation and cost savings analysis, so we could advise him on the most cost effective and sustainable way forward. The recommendations revealed that the Dyson Airblade hand dryer would be the best solution.

A trial unit was situated at the site which enabled both Steve and the team on site to test the unit and their feedback was extremely favorable.

Nine Dyson Airblades were subsequently installed providing huge environmental savings by eliminating paper hand towel deliveries and waste, using significantly less electricity and sending less waste to landfill.

The Result

Over five years Allport will make cost savings in excess of £30,000 based upon today’s known costs and not making any allowance for imminent and future paper price increases.

The staff and visitors are delighted with the Airblade and the washrooms are tidier and require less maintenance.

“Using paper towels in washrooms is a thing of the past for us. Visitors comment very positively on the new dryers and our staff love them. Installing the Airblades has saved us time and money but allows us to do our bit for the environment.”

UCS

The award winning University Campus Suffolk Waterfront building, in the Ipswich Education Quarter, recently completed the first of three phases. The Campus aims to educate and house over 3,000 students over the next three years within their new state of the art facilities.

The Challenge

University Campus Suffolk (UCS) accommodates 3,000 students and over 300 staff. Our aim has been to create environmentally and user friendly, modern washrooms that complement this stunning new, innovative and bold building.

Our objective has been to make UCS a landmark facility within the University Campus’ environment.

UCS was looking for an innovative and efficient solution to hand drying, as the old college site had traditionally used paper towels.

The Solution

Albany provided a full consultation service which included a hygiene and environmental survey. This revealed that the Dyson Airblade hand dryer would perfectly match the specification and subsequent pressure to reduce costs. It would also improve hygiene and reduce the Campus’ carbon footprint by eliminating the sending of hundreds of tons of paper to landfill each year.

Albany advised and saved UCS significant water expenditure by installing all thirty washrooms with a water management system and also an enzyme based sanitizer into the entire urinal system.

All products were thoroughly tested and demonstrated to the key members of the facilities management team in the old building. Their feedback was fantastic and consequently they adopted the Dyson Airblade on a lease purchase option from Albany, which included installation, educational backboards (designed to educate the users) and a full repair and replacement warranty.

The Result

Albany’s consultative and solution based approach proved a direct cost saving of just under £10,000 per annum.

Such a large site would have needed to have been serviced on a daily basis. The Albany solution also eliminated the cost of hundreds of man hours required for the distribution of paper towels into dispensers and the collection and emptying of waste paper towels from disposal bins.

The students and staff now enjoy a quick, hygienic and environmentally friendly hand drying solution.

Over the next five years, UCS will also profit from the savings gained from the Albany fixed price lease purchase option for the Dyson Airblade hand dryer.
